About the Author
Dr. Vedam Subrahmanyam received his B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from S.V. University, Tirupati, M.Sc. (Engg.) Degree from Chennai University and Ph.D. Degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT, Chennai 1961, 1963 and 1973 respectively. After working in Visweswaraya Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur and Regional Engineering College, Warangal for about 2 years as a faculty member, he joined IIT Chennai in May 1963 as Lecturer in Electrical Engineering. He taught courses in electrical engineering at various levels as Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor. He guided also candidates working forPh.D. degree in the area of Power Electronics and Drives. He guided students in their project work at postgraduate and undergraduate level. He has published literature of about sixty articles in various international and national journals and conferences. He has written very well acclaimed books, Thyristor Control of Electrical Drives, Electrical Drives Concepts and Applications and Power Electronics. He also wrote a continuing education module on Induction Motor Drives under Continuing Educating Project sponsored by MHRD through ISTE.
